COOLMEEN LADIES INTERMEDIATE FINAL VICTORY MATCH REPORT

Coolmeen Ladies defeated Burren Gaels in the 2016 Clare Ladies County Intermediate Football final on a score of 2 – 09 to 1 – 09

This was a brilliant game of football between two evenly matched sides. Coolmeen made a blistering start when Emma McMahon blasted the ball to the net in the opening minute. This was followed by a Eimear O’Connor point from play. Burren Gaels responded with 3 points of their own to reduce the deficit. Emma McMahon pointed 2 frees for Coolmeen before Burren Gaels again scored 3 points to level the game. At this stage Coolmeen goalie Grace Lynch pulled off a world class save to deny Burren Gaels a certain goal. Eimear O’Connor scored a great point from play before Burren Gaels again equalised. In the final action of the half Eimear O’Connor pointed a free to give the Coolmeen Ladies a 1 point lead at the break

Half Time: Coolmeen Ladies: 1 – 05 Burren Gaels: 0 – 07

Burren Gaels started the second half in determined fashion with 2 points from play to take the lead. Coolmeen responded in great fashion with 2 Eimear O’Connor points. Once again Grace Lynch came to the rescue with a great interception to deny Burren Gaels a goal. The action swung from end to end as both sides fought to gain control. The crucial score of the half came from Niamh Markham when she burst through and buried the ball in the Burren Gaels net to give Coolmeen a 4 point lead. Coolmeen were now dominant & Clodagh Murphy kicked 2 great points from play to extend the lead to 6 points. Burren Gaels fought bravely & in injury time they scored a goal directly from a 13m free. They pressed forward in the dying minutes seeking an equaliser but the Coolmeen defence held firm & at the final whistle claimed a deserved victory.

All the Coolmeen supporters poured on to the field to celebrate this famous victory. After the game Clare Ladies County Secretary Trudy Davenport presented player of the match trophy to Emma McMahon. COOLMEEN V WOLFETONES JUNIOR B CHAMP MATCH REPORT
WolfeTones defeated Coolmeen in the Junior B Championship semi-final on a score of 1 – 11 to 0 – 06
This was an excellent game of football played in glorious weather conditions. Enda Haugh opened the scoring for Coolmeen with 2 pointed frees. WolfeTones responded with 6 points on the trot to take control of the game. Coolmeen bravely fought back with a beautiful point from Jason O’Leary & pointed free from Enda Haugh.
Half Time: WolfeTones 0 – 06 Coolmeen 0 – 04
WolfeTones started the second half strongly with 3 unanswered points. Declan Casey surged forward to notch Coolmeen’s first point of the half. Now in control WolfeTones scored 1 goal & 2 points to increase their lead. Coolmeen battled bravely to the end with Enda Haugh again pointing a free.

COOLMEEN V KILFENORA INTERMEDIATE CHAMP MATCH REPORT
Kilfenora defeated Coolmeen in the Intermediate Football Championship Group 1 game on a score of 2 – 10 to 2 – 08
Kilfenora started strongly with 2 points from play before Killian Malone converted a penalty. Coolmeen responded with pointed frees from Kevin (Val) McMahon (2) & Cathal O’Connor (1) before Mark Meaney goaled after a great passing movement. Kilfenora took control of game with 3 further points before Ben Cleary scored a point for Coolmeen before the break.
Half Time: Kifenora: 1 – 05 Coolmeen: 1 – 04
Kifenora started the second half with 3 further points to extend their lead. Kevin (Val) McMahon again pointed 2 frees to reduce the deficit before Cathal O’Connor scored a great goal to give Coolmeen the lead. Kilfenora retook the lead when Killian Malone scored his second penalty. Cathal O’Connor pointed a free before Kilfenora scored 2 points from play. Despite some late pressure Coolmeen only added a Cathal O’Connor point from play before the end. With this defeat Coolmeen bow out of the Championship.

COOLMEEN V KILDYSART INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH REPORT
Kildysart defeated Coolmeen in the 1st round of the Intermediate Football Championship on a score of 3 – 10 to 2 – 09
This was a high scoring entertaining game between two evenly matched sides. Coolmeen started brightly with two points from Ben Cleary which was followed by a pointed free from Cathal O’Connor. Kildysart got back into the game with points from Ger Bobby Kelly & Damian Hill. Neil O’Connor struck for the first goal soon after to give Kildysart the lead. Further points from Ger Bobby Kelly & Shane McNeilis extended the lead. Kevin Val McMahon pointed a free for Coolmeen to reduce the margin. Barry Crehan then scored Kildysart’s second goal which was followed by a pointed free from Ger Bobby Kelly before the break.
Half Time: Kildysart 2 – 05 Coolmeen 0 – 04
Coolmeen started the second half with a well taken goal by David Neenan to reduce the deficit. Kildysart responded with a Kieran Eyers pointed free. After a well worked move David Neenan struck for another goal for Coolmeen. This was followed by points from Cian Murphy, Cathal O’Connor & Kevin Val McMahon to give Coolmeen the lead. Kildysart now responded with another goal by Ger Bobby Kelly to retake the lead. Kieran Eyers pointed another free for Kildysart. In the frantic closing stages Cathal O’Connor scored two points for Coolmeen & Ger Bobby Kelly scored two for Kildysart. In the last action of the game Kieran Eyers pointed another free to seal the victory for Kildysart

Our Coolmeen / Kildysart players got their 2016 Minor A Championship off to great start with a win over Naomh Eoin / O'Curry's by 0 - 09 to 0 - 07.
Naomh Eoin / O'Curry's took the lead with scores from Owen & Odhran Lynch. Coolmeen / Kildysart replied with a point from Kieran O'Brien which was followed by another point from Darragh Cleary to see the sides level at the break. Half Time: Coolmeen / Kildysart 0 – 02 Naomh Eoin / O’Curry’s 0 - 02 
In the second half, Coolmeen / Kildysart scored 5 unanswered points from Kieran O’Brien (3) & Darragh Cleary (2) before Naomh Eoin/O'Curry scored from a pointed free. Coolmeen / Kildysart responded with points from Barry Crehan & Diarmuid O’Donnell to go further ahead. Wolfe Tones defeated Coolmeen in the Div 6 Junior B League Round 5 match on a score of 2 – 18 to 3 – 05
This was a high scoring game played in glorious weather conditions. Wolfe Tones started brightly with 4 unanswered points. Coolmeen got into the game with a Kieran Neenan point from play. Soon after full forward Stevie Murphy goaled after a great pass from Sean P McMahon. Wolfe Tones responded with 4 more points to extend their lead. Enda Haugh scored two points from frees before Francis Kennedy kicked a point from play. Wolfe Tones finished the half with two more points.
Half Time: Wolfe Tones 0 – 10 Coolmeen 1 – 04
Wolfe Tones again started fast with four points from play. Coolmeen scored a goal when Jason O’Leary punched a long ball to the net. Soon after he added a point from play. Wolfe Tones scored two points from frees before Kieran Neenan scored a brilliant goal with a deft touch with the outside of his foot. Coolmeen pushed forward in an effort to win the game but were caught on the break by Wolfe Tones who scored two goals. In this period Coolmeen goalkeeper Colm Corry saved a penalty. This was a close hard fought encounter between two evenly matched sides. Coolmeen started the brighter with points from play by Enda Haugh & Kieran Neenan. Kildysart responded with two points of their own to level the game. Kieran Neenan & Francis Kennedy notched two more points before Kildysart took control & added three points before the break
Half Time: Kildysart 0 – 05 Coolmeen: 0 – 04
The second half continued in the same vein as both sides swapped points. Kieran Neenan & Donal Houlihan scored for Coolmeen before Kildysart added three points from play. Miltown defeated Coolmeen / Kildysart in the County U16 B Football Final on a score of 4 – 09 to 0 – 12
This was a high quality game played in great weather conditions. Miltown got the first point of the game. Coolmeen / Kildysart responded in great fashion with points from Diarmuid O’Donnell (2) & Seamus Casey (2). Miltown then took control of the game with goals from Oisin Looney, Zack Whelehan & Euan Reidy. They also scored three further points in this period. Coolmeen / Kildysart finished the half with a point from Diarmuid O’Donnell.

Coolmeen / Kildysart defeated Cratloe in the U16 Div 2 Championship semi-final on a score of 0 – 10 to 1 – 04

This was a high quality game between two evenly matched sides. Coolmeen / Kildysart started brightly with a great point from Dylan Power. Cratloe responded with a point to level the game. Coolmeen / Kildysart started to dominate possession & Emmet McMahon scored three pointed frees in this period. Cratloe scored a point from play before the break.

Half Time: Coolmeen / Kildysart 0 – 04 Cratloe 0 – 02

Cratloe started the second half in determined fashion with a point from play. They now created numerous scoring chances but the Coolmeen / Kildysart defence held firm with Dylan O’Halloran outstanding. Seamus Casey scored a point from play for Coolmeen / Kildysart before Cratloe responded with a point of their own. COOLMEEN V LISSYCASEY O’GORMAN CUP MATCH REPORT

Lissycasey defeated Coolmeen in the O’Gorman Cup Round 3 on a score of 3 – 14 to 0 – 06

This was a free flowing game of football played in ideal weather conditions. Coolmeen started brightly with a pointed free by Kevin (Val) McMahon. Lissycasey responded with a point from play. Coolmeen played some great football at this stage & were awarded with points from Joe Corry & Kevin Corry. Lissycasey responded with two points of their own to level the game. Coolmeen finished the half strongly with a point from David Neenan.

Half Time: Coolmeen 0 – 04 Lissycasey 0 – 03

On the resumption Lissycasey scored four points on the trot before Cian Murphy responded for Coolmeen. Lissycasey scored a goal at this stage followed by two points. Sean Wallace responded with a point for Coolmeen. Lissycasey scored two further goals & five points before the end. All the Coolmeen players battled bravely & never gave up but Lissycasey were deserving winners.
