Kilmihil defeated Coolmeen in the Div 3 Football League game by a scoreline of 1 – 10 to 1 – 07

This was an evenly contested game between both sides played in bitterly cold weather conditions. Coolmeen started brightly with a point from Cathal O’Connor. Kilmihil responded with 3 points in a row to take the lead. Kilmihil goalkeeper Timmy Ryan made a point blank save to deny Cian Murphy a certain Coolmeen goal. Soon after Kevin Corry pointed a Coolmeen free. Kilmihil responded with 2 further points before Cian Murphy closed the half with a well taken point.

Coolmeen started the second half with 2 Cathal O’Connor points from play. Kilmihil responded with a point before Michéal Brooks fielded a long delivery and blasted the ball to the Kilmihil net to give Coolmeen the lead. Kilmihil scored another point before Paul Reidy converted a penalty for Kilmihil after Martin O’Leary was pulled down in the square. Kilmihil now reeled off 3 points in a row to extend their lead. Coolmeen fought bravely to the end & points from Cian Murphy & Cathal O’Connor reduced the margin but Kilmihil ran out deserving winners on the evening.

Coolmeen & Shannon Gaels played out an exciting draw in their Div 3 Rd 6 League encounter on a score of Coolmeen 2 – 10  Shannon Gaels 3 – 07.

Kevin Corry opened the scoring for Coolmeen with a well taken point followed by a similar effort from Ben Cleary. Shannon Gaels responded with two points of their own to level matters. Ben Cleary then fisted the ball to the Gaels net followed by a pointed free to give Coolmeen a four point lead. On the stroke of halftime Shannon Gaels goaled to leave the minimum between the teams.

Half Time: Coolmeen 1 – 03    Shannon Gaels 1 – 02

Cian Murphy & Ben Cleary scored points for Coolmeen on the resumption to extend the lead before Shannon Gaels replied with a point. Coolmeen scored further points from Paudie Corry, Brian Markham & Eoin O’Connor before Mike Shea scored two points for Shannon Gaels. Kevin “Val” McMahon scored a penalty goal for Coolmeen before second half Gaels substitute John Paul O’Neill scored one goal & created another to level the game. Coolmeen responded with a Paudie Corry pointed free. In the frantic closing stages Shannon Gaels scored two further points before Ben Cleary pointed a free with the last kick of the game to level the game.

Coolmeen defeated Killimer in a Div 3 Football League match played on Friday April 7th on a score of 3 – 11 to 1 – 09

This was an open, free flowing game of football played in ideal conditions at a well-appointed Coolmeen GAA pitch. Before a large attendance, Coolmeen started brightly with 3 pointed frees from Ben Cleary. Soon afterwards Cian Murphy raced on to a ball & blasted to the Killimer net to increase the Coolmeen lead. Killimer responded with 2 points from play before they goaled after a long delivery into the Coolmeen goalmouth. Coolmeen regained their composure & scored points from Kevin Corry & Cian Murphy before the break.

Half Time: Coolmeen: 1 – 05    Killimer: 1 – 02

Killimer started the second half in determined fashion with 3 quick-fire points to level the game before Cathal O’Connor pointed a free for Coolmeen. Killimer soon equalised with a well taken point.  Paudie Corry goaled for Coolmeen after a surging run & shot from Cathal O’Connor was parried by the Killimer Goalie. Soon afterwards, Ben Cleary goaled again for Coolmeen when his long range effort dipped into the top corner of the net. Coolmeen added further points from Cathal O’Connor (2) & Brian Markham to extend their lead. Killimer scored 3 further points from play before Coolmeen finished strongly with points from Aaron Kelly & Cian Murphy to record a well-deserved victory.

Coolmeen defeated Kilkee in the Div 3 Rd 4 Football league played on April 22nd by 0 – 10 to 0 – 03

Coolmeen started brightly with points from Cian Murphy from play & Cathal O’Connor from a free. Kilkee responded with 2 points to level the game. Coolmeen were dominating possession but poor kicking was letting them down. Paudie Corry kicked a point from play to give Coolmeen the interval lead.

Half Time: Coolmeen 0 – 03    Kilkee 0 – 02

Shane McMahon & Kevin Corry scored early second half points for Coolmeen before the ageless David Russell pointed for Kilkee to reduce the margin. Coolmeen got on top at midfield & Cian Murphy & Brian Markham pointed from play. Soon after Kevin (Val) McMahon pointed a free to extend the lead. In the closing stages Kevin Corry scored two points from play to seal the victory.

Coolmeen defeated Kilfenora in the opening round of the 2017 Div 3 Football league on a score of 0 – 10 to 0 – 04

This was a hard fought encounter played in difficult conditions. Coolmeen started brightly with 3 points from Ben Cleary. Kilfenora responded with a pointed free. Coolmeen regained control with points from Joe Corry & Cathal O’Connor before the break to leave Half time score: Coolmeen: 0 – 05 Kilfenora: 0 – 01

Coolmeen again started brightly in second period with 2 further points from Ben Cleary. Kilfenora responded with 2 pointed frees to reduce the margin. David Neenan added 2 further points before Kilfenora scored a point from play. In the closing stages Micheál Brooks pointed from play to ensure a deserved victory for Coolmeen.

Coolmeen & Naomh Eoin played out an exciting draw in their Div 3 Football league encounter on a score of Coolmeen 4 – 07  Naomh Eoin 5 – 04

Kevin Corry opened the scoring for Coolmeen with a point before  Noel Meaney goaled to increase the lead. Naomh Eoin responded with a point. Two pointed frees from Ben Cleary followed by a goal from Brian Markham increased the Coolmeen lead. Seamus Boland converted a penalty for Naomh Eoin before the break.

Half Time: Coolmeen 2 – 03    Naomh Eoin 1 – 01

The second half produced a goal fest. Naomh Eoin scored 4 goals & 3 points with Coolmeen responding with goals from Shane McMahon  & Ben Cleary who also added 4 points. Overall a draw was a fair result.

WolfeTones defeated Coolmeen in the Junior B Championship semi-final on a score of 1 – 11 to 0 – 06
This was an excellent game of football played in glorious weather conditions. Enda Haugh opened the scoring for Coolmeen with 2 pointed frees. WolfeTones responded with 6 points on the trot to take control of the game. Coolmeen bravely fought back with a beautiful point from Jason O’Leary & pointed free from Enda Haugh.
Half Time: WolfeTones 0 – 06 Coolmeen 0 – 04
WolfeTones started the second half strongly with 3 unanswered points. Declan Casey surged forward to notch Coolmeen’s first point of the half. Now in control WolfeTones scored 1 goal & 2 points to increase their lead. Coolmeen battled bravely to the end with Enda Haugh again pointing a free.

Kilfenora defeated Coolmeen in the Intermediate Football Championship Group 1 game on a score of 2 – 10 to 2 – 08
Kilfenora started strongly with 2 points from play before Killian Malone converted a penalty. Coolmeen responded with pointed frees from Kevin (Val) McMahon (2) & Cathal O’Connor (1) before Mark Meaney goaled after a great passing movement. Kilfenora took control of game with 3 further points before Ben Cleary scored a point for Coolmeen before the break.
Half Time: Kifenora: 1 – 05 Coolmeen: 1 – 04
Kifenora started the second half with 3 further points to extend their lead. Kevin (Val) McMahon again pointed 2 frees to reduce the deficit before Cathal O’Connor scored a great goal to give Coolmeen the lead. Kilfenora retook the lead when Killian Malone scored his second penalty. Cathal O’Connor pointed a free before Kilfenora scored 2 points from play. Despite some late pressure Coolmeen only added a Cathal O’Connor point from play before the end. With this defeat Coolmeen bow out of the Championship.

Kildysart defeated Coolmeen in the 1st round of the Intermediate Football Championship on a score of 3 – 10 to 2 – 09
This was a high scoring entertaining game between two evenly matched sides. Coolmeen started brightly with two points from Ben Cleary which was followed by a pointed free from Cathal O’Connor. Kildysart got back into the game with points from Ger Bobby Kelly & Damian Hill. Neil O’Connor struck for the first goal soon after to give Kildysart the lead. Further points from Ger Bobby Kelly & Shane McNeilis extended the lead. Kevin Val McMahon pointed a free for Coolmeen to reduce the margin. Barry Crehan then scored Kildysart’s second goal which was followed by a pointed free from Ger Bobby Kelly before the break.

Coolmeen started the second half with a well taken goal by David Neenan to reduce the deficit. Kildysart responded with a Kieran Eyers pointed free.
