The club's sporting year was opened Saturday last when Coolmeen hosted The Banner in Coolmeen, kicking off the under 16 championship. A strong breeze fell against Coolmeen's favor in the first half and this was evident from some early missed opportunities. Cian Murphy opened up his team's account after 7minutes of play with a goal, which was soon followed by a pointed free from the Banner side. Playing against the wind, Coolmeen relied on Kildysart's Rory McMahon and Mark Meaney to stand  guard in the back lines. The home team worked the ball up the field through Oisin Coyle with Ben Cleary and Gary Meaney converting one point each to leave the teams 1-02 to 2pts going into the break.
Monents after the restart, the Banner scrambled the ball across Adam Carrigg's line to level the teams. This would be the last score of the game for the Banner as Coolmeen dominated for the remainder of the game, clocking up an impressive 3-10 in the half through Ben Cleary, Conor Donnellan, Cian Murphy, Oisin Coyle, Gary Meaney and Rory Mcmahon, the final score line reading Coolmeen 4-12 to the Banner's 1-02.
