25/04/2014:  The U16's boys from both sides of the Shannon Estuary met tonight for their 2nd time in a week. Kildysart/Coolmeen's win secures them a Division 1 semi-final spot v Gaels/Kilmihil. Tonight's match was the rescheduled affair after Monday's match was called off due to a date mixup with the ref.  It was all to play for as Wolfetones needed a win to guarantee their semi-final spot and Kildysart/Coolmeen needed to at least draw to guarantee theirs.  But a draw was far from their minds this evening as the Kildysart/Coolmeen boys had only victory on their minds.  It was a wintery evening with strong winds blowing in all directions that favoured neither side.

Barry Crehan slotted one over to start the match but Wolfetones responded with 3 unanswered points.  Frees from Alan Normoyle and Barry Crehan saw the sides level at the end of the first quarter.  Wolfetones saved a penalty in the 22' minute but a goal save from Adam Carrig and 2 points from Seamus Casey put Kildysart/ Coolmeen ahead at the break 5 points to 3.

Wolfetones started strong in the second half and scored an unaswered 1-3 to lead by 4 heading into the final quarter.  The tide changed when Kildysart/Coolmeen won a free in the 49th minute.  The ball landed in the square, was gathered but the pointed attempt hit the crossbar. Barry Crehan collected the rebound and promptly buried the ball in the back of the net, to bring us to within a point.  Kildysart/Coolmeen started playing a short passing game to combat the wind and were rewarded with 3 points from Alan Normoyle - giving them a 1-8 to 1-6 lead with 6 minutes normal time remaining.  Wolfetones counter attacked with a point and then their shot on goal was saved by the upright and cleared away.  Alan Normoyle pointed a free in the 60th minute to put 2 between them. A nervous 2-3 minutes ensued as Kildysart/Coolmeen defended well before the final whistle. Kildysart/Coolmeen 1-9, Wolfetones 1-7.  Congratulations to the team and management on getting to the semi-final in the first year in Division 1.  The other semi-final is table topper Doora/Barefield v St. Breckans.
